Focussing On YOU Is More Important Than Focussing On The Competition

focus on you, not the competition

I see people falling into the trap of focussing on the competition all the time- let me tell you, that is a mistake.

There’s no reason to focus on anyone other than yourself.

Yes, you can be aware of what other people are doing. Yes, you can have your ear to the ground- but you shouldn’t allow yourself to be distracted. Because that’s when you take your eye off the prize (the prize being you- yep, you).

Keeping Up With The Joneses

It might seem an obvious thing to say, but remaining focussed on your business and your own progress and goals is vital.

Too much ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ can take you right off track and cause distracting worry if you think everyone else is one step ahead of you which a) they’re probably not and b) is irrelevant to you and your journey.

Waste Of Energy

Learn from other people and their mistakes, yes. Make changes and adapt where you think you can- but don’t focus too much on others. That’s a mistake.

I see companies and individuals doing it- worrying that everything their competitor does is what they should be doing.

Why? It makes no sense. It’s just nonsense. You’re on completely different paths.

Giving loads of energy to someone else is madness when that focus, that energy should be coming to you.

Fostering Positive Energy

Theodore Roosevelt quite rightly said that “Comparison is the thief of joy” and this couldn’t be more true, even in a business context.

Positivity is vital in driving yourself and your business forward- you need to be buzzing with the stuff.

Comparing yourself to others is a sure-fire way to increase the negativity so, why bother?
